Clinton Cries “Sexism”
Jun 3rd, 2008 by madeleine
I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of hearing shrieks of “sexism” over Senator Clinton’s losing race for the Democratic nomination.
As a woman I find Hillary’s cries of “I am a victim of sexism.” enormously offensive. She is not a victim of Howard Dean, Barrack Obama, the entire Democratic party leadership, Chris Matthews, Rush Limbaugh, the media at large, or whoever else the Clintons and supporters try to blame for Hillary’s failure to snatch the nomination.
She’s losing because she can’t keep her story straight in a country where people are growing tired of politics as usual. She’s losing because she strikes low blows against an opponent who generally takes the high road. She’s losing because she mismanaged her campaign, because nobody cares about her 35 years of experience as Bill Clinton’s wife, and she’s losing because more people believe in Barrack than her. People want change and Hillary Clinton doesn’t represent that.
I appreciate that a woman has run, I just wish it had been anyone else. I would have voted for Ann Richards in a heartbeat. Give me Nancy Pelosi (yeah yeah, I know), but there is Kathleen Sebelius, Janet Napolitano, Carolyn Maloney, Amy Klobuchar even Madeleine Albright, these are women I can respect and admire. These are women who will represent me.
Yeah, Hillary’s a woman and we’ve heard her roar. Now I’m ready for the next woman to run and win. Let’s have half of the nominees be women next term, great women who won’t lay blame on stupid t-shirts or idiotic comments for their stumbles.
I take Maya Angelou’s “Rise, Hillary rise.” to mean… ‘move beyond your petty, selfishness and grow to be a real strong, powerful, graceful and honest woman.” Unfortunately I don’t think Hillary has it in her.
So for now let’s throw our strength behind Barack and pressure him to make the changes and support the policies that will make our lives better as women, as Americans, as humans.
You must must MUST read Peggy Noonan’s Op-Ed piece in the WSJ weekend journal- it is freakin’ genius. Let me know if you can’t find it I will send it to you!!
Well, Mad, I disagree.
I think that Hilary lost because of Obama’s incredible charisma. I think Hilary lost because the United States would rather have a young, attractive, Black MALE president to show off to the world than an older, saggy white woman president.
The American Press as well as the European Press chose Obama - that’s who decides your presidents for you - the press. Americans seem to think they are voting for class president - not for a world leader.
And talk about hero worship. Obama can do no wrong. OOOOh, he’s sooo cute! Ooooh, he’s got such “go for it” policies! OOOh, he’s thrown his mother and his grandparents out with the garbage! OOOh, he and his wife and children attend (attended when it became politically expedient) one of the most blatantly racist churches in America - Oh, wait — it’s a black church that hates whites - not a white church that hates blacks — that’s allright, then.
His foreign policy is the typical uninformed, naive student drivel spouted in campus dormitories, cafeterias, and coffee shops. “yeah, man - we need to dialogue with the Iranians, the Arabs………the world! That’ll work!”
If he hasn’t got a teleprompter to work from he stumbles, back-tracks, contradicts, and generally makes a fool of himself.
He has an abysmal lack of general knowledge - but then he is American.
He might make a good president - in a few years - but not yet. Still, if you want change…you will definately get it….though what kind of change remains to be seen.
Oh - and, Mad - Maya Angelou is not the oracle - she’s not even a great poet.
Re:(attended when it became politically expedient) - this should have read: (stopped attending when it became politically expedient)
Hey Mad,
Eloquently put. I agree with you. Hilary shot herself in the foot the minute she lied about gunfire around her when she was oversees. In a world that is sick and tired of politicians blatantly lying to us about everything she should have known better. It has NOTHING to do with her sex. I get so tired of people pulling the race and the sex card. In my world there are two kinds of people: Good people and Assholes. You are either one or the other. I am also sick and tired of hearing the cries that Obama does not have enough experience. Well George W. has all of the experience in the world behind him and our country is in worse shape than ever. Yeah that’s where experience has lead us. Maybe Obama does not have this so called experience but from what I see ANYTHING would be better than the idiots we have already had the displeasure to be led by. Hilary chose mudslinging instead of intelligent debate. Bottom line. Well that’s all for now. Bets
I feel Hilary has done the old one step forward two steps back for women. She started out promising but let me down by resorting to dirty smear campaign tactics instead of what is important. Health care, Global warmiong
THANK GOD! At work I’m surrounded by crazy Hillary supporters who until this election I had thought of as rational, sensible human beings. It made my day to find your post on this and to find it so well written. It’s not that I hate Hillary or anything, but she has done a disservice to women and she didn’t need to do it. I felt it was a cold attempt at grasping power any which way without a care as to who it hurt. She ran a mean spirited, unorganized, cocky campaign and I agree that it’s because of “sexism” that she got as many votes as she did.
