Get Involved!

A recent study discovered that commercials aimed at kids (33 per hour!) show boys building, fixing things, or fighting 55% of the time. Girls, on the other hand, are shown 77% of the time laughing, talking, or merely observing others. Sadly, we continue to see this in real life… girls “watching” while boys “do”. Just think how often you see a girl on the back of a motorcycle and compare that to how often you see a girl riding a motorcycle.
There’s hope! We have found some amazing women who take action, defy labels and will encourage women of all ages to replace their “I wish I could…” with “Yes, I can… I just did… it was awesome!”
We have been searching for women who defy stereotypes, interesting women you might not ordinarily meet. That nurse who checked your temperature last week stars in a burlesque show on the weekends (when she’s not doing duty in the army reserves), the Olympic skier is also a model, a firefighter, and a hairstylist, the cute blonde eight-year old girl playing with her Barbies will do her first skateboard jump later in the afternoon. These are the kinds of women we are interviewing in our upcoming documentary as we disassemble the “girl” stereotypes and discover what it means to be a woman.
Stark Raving Madeleine needs your help to keep this project going whether it’s through investing, fundraising, volunteering, or helping to spread the word. Be a part of something that will make a huge positive difference in the lives of women and girls across the country. Here are a variety of ways that you can help.
DOLLARS AND CENTS
Invest: Looking for a worthwhile place to put some money? Stark Raving Madeleine is actively seeking investors to keep the filming of this powerful, entertaining, and much needed documentary going. Beyond the sheer joy of doing something good for humankind, there are many fun and exciting benefits for you! Contact Us for all the details!
Fundraise: Help us orchestrate a fundraising effort, whether it’s a performance or shopping benefit event (% proceeds go to), or a collaboration with a like-minded existing business, group, or charity.
Buy: We will have some totally cool products available for purchase very soon including; t-shirts, skateboards, prints, and of course… Supermongrel Photo Sessions (book your photo session before September 30th).
Donate: Little things are always needed and appreciated. Hours and hours of footage need a huge amount of hard drive space, donate large capacity hard drives. Likewise, we run through an enormous amount of Panasonic pro mini-DV tapes. Meals and treats (homemade chocolate chip cookies!) are welcome on any given day of shooting. Airmiles will get us where we need to go and somewhere to stay when in other cities will keep us off the streets. To view a complete filming wish list, CLICK HERE.
SPREAD THE WORD
Connect us: Put us in contact with people you know who may be interested in investing, volunteering, organizing, or acting as emotional cheerleaders.
Tell your friends: Whether you send out an email, link to us on your website, blog about us, or add us to your MySpace or Facebook, the more people checking in to see what we’re up to, the better.
Tell the press: Contact your favorite television stations, newspapers, magazines and let them know that you would like to see a piece on this project.
Tell your community: Ask your church, school, community group to hire Madeleine to speak on issues important to us all.
Make phone calls: Don’t know anyone? We’ve got lists of people to contact, but no time to make all the calls. If you’ve got the voice, we’ve got the numbers.
WORK ON THE PROJECT
Volunteer: At any given time, there are a million-and-one things for a volunteer to do. Whether you are wrangling passers-by for impromptu interviews, holding a reflector, making phone calls, wielding a camera, or keeping people from bumping the cameraman, it’s all valuable to us. You’ll get to see first-hand how documentary filmmaking is done and meet some interesting people.
Produce: Really excited about the project? Want to take on a big role? Do you love brainstorming, making phone calls, organizing people, and hustling? I see a co-producer title in your future…
